Meet our Pastor and First Lady
Pastor Kevin M Young and First Lady Yahne Young
Pastor Kevin M Young
Pastor Kevin M. Young was born September 25, 1969 to Elder Ronald and Sister Rose M. Young in Indianapolis, Indiana. Pastor Young received his early education through the tenth grade in the Tulsa Public School system. Pastor Young completed his high school education at Cherry Hill East High School where he received his diploma in 1987.
Pastor Young received his ministerial license from the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc, and in 2007 was ordained through the same organization. He was appointed Assistant to the Pastor and later promoted to an Associate Pastor. After serving faithfully in this capacity, Bishop Ronald Young determined to change his role to Senior Pastor whereupon he elevated Elder Kevin Young to Pastor in September of 2012. He has displayed a great love and appreciation for the people of God and all of the attributes of a true "Shepherd" for the congregants at Pentecostal Bridegroom Temple.
Doctrinal Statement
WE BELIEVE that the Bible is the inspired, infallible (unalterable) Word of God, written by Holy men of old as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
WE BELIEVE in one God who is infinite in power, holy in nature, attributes, and purposes, as well as omniscient and omnipresent.
WE BELIEVE that He was revealed to us as Father in Creation, as Son in redemption, and as the Holy Spirit in His comforting grace that never leaves those who trust Him.
WE BELIEVE that in Jesus dwelleth all the fullnes of the Godhead bodily, for it pleased the Father that in Him should all fullness dwell.
WE BELIEVE in the Virgin Birth: Jesus was both human and divine. He was God manifested in the flesh.
WE BELIEVE in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. We Believe that He ascended on high and has sent His Spirit, the Holy Ghost, which was poured out at Jerusalem over 2000 years ago. And it is the same Spirit that is filling the hearts of those who diligently seek Him today.
WE BELIEVE in baptism in water by immersion, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, for the remission of sins, and in the baptism of the Holy Ghost: speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance. This constitutes the new birth.
WE BELIEVE in a holy sanctified life. We believe in divine healing, communion, and foot washing. We believe also in the glorious catching away (the rapture) of the saints when Jesus returns in the clouds in glory to take His people to heaven.
OUR CHIEF AIM is to glorify our Saviour, who is Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from all iniquity and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of works.
Our History
1933
Starting off
Pentecostal Bridegroom Church began in 1933, with 9 members.
Their first church meeting was at the home of Sister Garnett. Soon, they moved into the storefront church at 1504 South 20th Street, and there they conducted daily prayer meetings to seek God's guidance for the next step.
33-39
First Members
Elder Stephen W. Bishop became the first pastor of the fledgling church. Under the pastorate of Elder Bishop, the first person to be baptized in Jesus' Name was Sister Willie Mae Caruthers, and the first member to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost was Sister Dora Hilton (Mayfield), who would become the wife of the third pastor of the church. Under Elder Bishop's pastorate, the congregation grew and the church relocated to 1439 South 20th Street.
1940
Relocation
In the spring of 1940, the church moved to 834 Lombard Street. Under Elder Nichols leadership the church flourished with his teaching, love for the saints, and warnings to guard against sin and adhere to holiness. During his 26 years as pastor, he was elevated to District Elder and ultimately to Bishop in the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. Bishop Nichols fell asleep in Jesus in January, 1965.
1985
Phase two
In August, 1985, Elder Ronald L. Young relocated his family from Tulsa, Oklahoma to Cherry Hill, New Jersey, and became the 4th pastor of Pentecostal Bridegroom Church. It was with much prayer that the saints of God chose Elder Young from among the other outstanding candidates to become our pastor.
Under Bishop Young's very capable administration, the church moved from the building at 834 Lombard to the complex at 6901 Woodland Ave, where a school, a homeless shelter and senior boarding home.
2013
Modern
In September of 2013, Elder Kevin M Young succeeded Bishop Young as pastor and continues to lead the church to present day.
